ABOUT

Ye Chan Cheong (b.1990), based in Korea, grew up in a Christianity background. He has been interested in international relationships, communication, manner, cultural diversity and education.

His dream started from seeking his way of meditation and finding identity in the belief through some journeys since 2009. The first step began in Lausanne (Switzerland), where he realized the variety of ways of meditation and realization of truth via outreach to Cairo (Egypt). After the astonishing journey, he joined military service in Korea for two years. There he faced a test of his faith, leadership, and previous awareness by the limited environment like a semi-war situation (Bombardment of Yeonpyeong). It boosted him to find his way of expression or language, and it guided him to study four years of Fine Arts education at the British Higher School of Art and Design (Moscow).

Colour research and studio practice are essential parts of his inspiration based on colour’s history of the commercial name, contrast, comparison and arrangement. He participated in TUNE&TONE: Violin, Piano, Painting (in collaboration with musicians), 6. Moscow International Biennale for Young Art and XX International Art Biennale Cerveira (Portugal), through which he realized the potential of colour abstraction as a language tool.
